We are not afraid of anything, APC has never complained to anyone–Ajibola Basiru

According to Nigerian tribune, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has addressed political developments ahead of the 2027 general election. A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, he was previously a practicing lawyer in Lagos before his appointment as Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration in 2010 under the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Basiru discussed his political stance, the ongoing efforts of opposition parties to form a coalition, the upcoming 2026 Osun governorship election, and other political issues.

He dismissed concerns about the opposition’s attempts to unite against the APC, stating that the ruling party is not worried about such efforts. According to him, APC has not expressed any fear or complaints regarding these political maneuvers. He noted that it is the opposition parties themselves that claim APC is interfering with their stability. He stated that the opposition has not been effective beyond making verbal attacks and criticisms without presenting substantial alternatives.

Regarding the 2026 Osun governorship election, Basiru emphasized the APC’s focus on strengthening its structure and maintaining support within the state. He pointed out that the party remains confident in its ability to contest and win elections based on its performance. He described the APC as an organized party with a strong presence in Osun and across the country. He also remarked that opposition parties have struggled with internal divisions, which have affected their ability to function effectively.

On the national political landscape, he commented on the ongoing realignments among politicians. He acknowledged that the political scene is constantly evolving, with different parties seeking alliances to improve their electoral chances. However, he maintained that APC remains focused on governance and delivering on its promises rather than being concerned about opposition strategies. He highlighted the party’s ability to adapt and address political challenges, which has contributed to its continued presence in government.

Basiru also discussed broader governance issues, including economic policies and national security. He stated that the APC-led administration has continued to implement policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and ensuring national development. He emphasized the importance of policy consistency and governance experience in addressing challenges facing the country. He noted that while criticisms exist, the government remains committed to addressing issues affecting citizens.

He also spoke on political engagement and the role of opposition parties in democracy. He argued that an effective opposition should focus on constructive engagement rather than personal attacks. He stressed that political discourse should be issue-based and centered on governance rather than propaganda. He reiterated that APC welcomes healthy competition but remains confident in its position ahead of future elections.

He said: We are not afraid of anything, APC has never complained to anyone. You will realize that it is the opposition parties that are coming out to say it is the APC that is not allowing them to have a stable party. We are not afraid of anyone, and let me tell you this, the so-called oppositions are not even performing the role of oppositions beyond issuing abuses.
